Grant’s legal career has focused on litigation and motions practice at all stages, and has included constitutional law and government litigation; employment cases, discrimination lawsuits, and the EEOC claims process; cases filed to defend the rights of people with disabilities and other ADA issues; various civil liberties cases, including issues important to the LGBTQ+ community; litigating constitutional matters arising under the First, Fourth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments, the Equal Protection Clause, and others; extensive prisoner litigation; handling judicial review of state agency determinations and other government entities; and other civil litigation matters in both the public and private sectors. And in drawing on this prior work, Grant strives to leverage that expertise to benefit the clients of Helms Legal, LLC.

Grant graduated cum laude from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, receiving several academic awards, which include:

  • the Blackwell Award (2010), from the Indiana International and Comparative Law Review for outstanding publication, as evaluated by the Indiana State Bar Association’s International Division

  • the Norman Lefstein Award of Excellence (2011), from the Pro Bono & Clinical Program for the highest level recognized by the law school for contribution of volunteer time and work toward pro bono legal services

The American University, in Washington, DC, provided an exceptional opportunity to study government and the mechanics of American civic institutions and to experience firsthand how the law is shaped, executed, and refined. Grant received his undergraduate degree from AU, graduating magna cum laude with a BA in political science.
